Abington Junior High is home to almost 2000 junior high students, and is the only Junior High in Abington School District. The Township of Abington is a five time recipient of the America’s Promise Alliance award 100 Best Communities for Young People and Money Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. In addition, Abington School District has been recognized four times by NAMM as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. Abington Junior High School is also a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School. A full list of the district’s points of pride can be found at http://www.abington.k12.pa.us/super/points.html.

The band program is comprised of a 7th grade, 8th grade, and 9th grade curricular concert band. Students meet two times a week in a small sectional rehearsal, and once a week as a full band rehearsal. Students are eligible to learn and perform any instrument in the concert band repertoire. The Abington Junior High band program has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association for its performance at several state adjudication festivals, including ratings of “Superior” for sight-reading. The band has also been awarded ratings of “Superior” at Music in the Parks adjudication festivals.

In addition to a well-balanced curricular band program, other extracurricular activities include: The A-Town Jazz Band, Abington Marching Ghosts (9th grade only), Pep Band, Pit Orchestra, Montco Band, and other small ensembles. The Abington Junior High Band program is one of three high level performing programs at Abington Junior High, alongside outstanding choral and orchestral programs.
